Old Rockstar Leak Resurfaces With GTA 5’s Scrapped Liberty City Expansion, Agent Trevor Content and Early GTA 6 Assets
A roughly 192 GB archive of old Rockstar development files has surfaced publicly, revealing more detail about canceled GTA V content, including a much larger Liberty City expansion and the scrapped Agent Trevor DLC. The files also appear to contain very early GTA VI assets, but this is not a new Rockstar breach and much of the material remains unverified.
Rockstar Games
Rockstar Games is dealing with another wave of leaked material, but the situation needs an important clarification before anybody starts calling this a brand new GTA VI hack.
A roughly 192 GB archive of Rockstar development files began circulating publicly on September 18. Reporting from multiple outlets indicates that the material traces back to the company’s 2022 security breach, rather than a new intrusion into Rockstar’s systems.
The archive appears to contain a much larger collection of material than the roughly 4 GB GTA V source code package that circulated publicly in 2023.
Among the discoveries being discussed are a canceled Liberty City expansion for Grand Theft Auto V, content from the abandoned Agent Trevor single player DLC, beta vehicles, development tools, cut dialogue and what appear to be early GTA VI map assets.
Before going any further, Off The Sticks Press wants to make our position clear.
OTSPress Does Not Support Leaks
Off The Sticks Press does not encourage, support or participate in obtaining stolen development material.
Leaks can expose unfinished work without context, spoil projects developers have spent years creating and place employees in difficult situations through no fault of their own.
We will not provide download links to leaked archives or direct readers toward stolen source code.
However, when leaked material becomes a major gaming news story, particularly one being widely discussed throughout the community, we believe it is still our responsibility to report on what is happening while clearly separating confirmed information from speculation.
That is what this article is intended to do.
This Is Old Data Becoming Public, Not a New Rockstar Hack
Calling this a “new Rockstar leak” can be misleading.
The files themselves are reportedly connected to the major 2022 Rockstar breach, the same incident that resulted in dozens of early GTA VI development videos appearing online before Rockstar had properly revealed the game.
Insider Gaming reports that the newly circulating archive had existed privately among a smaller number of people before becoming more broadly distributed.
That means the development material may be old even if the public is only now getting its first look at some of it.
This matters especially when discussing GTA VI.
Assets created years ago during development should not automatically be treated as representative of the version launching in 2026. Games change dramatically during production, and unused models, maps or code can be altered or discarded entirely.
Rockstar Apparently Built a Much Larger Liberty City
One of the most discussed discoveries involves what appears to be a Liberty City expansion originally planned for GTA V.
Modders examining the files reportedly found development data associated with a project often referred to as LibertyV.
Using location and coastal audio zone information contained in the files, community researchers reconstructed an outline of Rockstar’s planned Liberty City environment.
The reconstructed layout appears substantially larger than the version of Liberty City featured in Grand Theft Auto IV, extending well beyond the familiar urban islands into additional surrounding land.
That immediately set off speculation that Rockstar could eventually reuse the expanded city in GTA VI.
There is currently no verified evidence that this will happen.
No official Rockstar announcement connects the canceled Liberty City work to GTA VI DLC, and nothing inside these reports confirms that Liberty City is planned as a future destination.
The safest conclusion is much simpler. Rockstar appears to have explored building a considerably larger Liberty City for GTA V before canceling the project.
Everything beyond that remains speculation.
Why the GTA IV Comparison Has People Talking
The size of the apparent Liberty City project is what caught the community’s attention.
GTA IV’s Liberty City already contained multiple borough inspired islands modeled after New York City and New Jersey, including Algonquin, Broker, Dukes, Bohan and Alderney.
The newly reconstructed development outline appears to expand far beyond that layout.
Community discussion has focused heavily on northern wilderness and additional surrounding territory that would have made the city feel more like a broader state or metropolitan region instead of only an urban environment.
That does not necessarily tell us what Rockstar intended to put in those areas.
A development outline is not the same thing as a completed map.
Some portions could have been placeholders, low detail terrain, boundaries or technical zones that never reached full production.
Still, seeing evidence that Rockstar considered a significantly larger Liberty City is fascinating from a game development perspective.
The Agent Trevor DLC Was Apparently Much Bigger Than We Saw
The archive also appears to contain substantial material connected to GTA V’s canceled Agent Trevor single player expansion.
Rockstar previously planned story DLC for GTA V before shifting much of its development focus toward GTA Online.
The newly surfaced material reportedly includes mission names, interiors and scenarios connected to Trevor operating in a spy themed storyline.
Among the reported content are underground facilities, unusual mansion interiors and even material involving a spaceship and space suits.
Some concepts from Rockstar’s abandoned single player plans were later repurposed in GTA Online updates, particularly The Doomsday Heist, something former Rockstar developers have discussed publicly in the past.
The leaked files appear to give players a clearer look at just how developed some of those original ideas had become.
There is even reported dialogue tied to an alternate version of Trevor’s possible death in GTA V, where the character would have crashed into liquid nitrogen rather than the oil tanker used in the final game.
Again, this is cut development material.
None of it should be interpreted as content Rockstar currently plans to release.
Early GTA VI Assets Are Apparently Included Too
The archive reportedly contains some files connected to early GTA VI development.
Those include low detail map renders, filenames referring to Florida and the Everglades, and possible early 3D models of locations that resemble parts of Leonida seen in Rockstar’s official material.
This portion of the leak is much less substantial than some headlines may suggest.
There is no verified complete GTA VI map inside the archive.
Some of the material may simply be LOD assets, or low detail models used to represent distant scenery during development. The files are also believed to date back several years.
That means anyone trying to use these assets to determine the final size or structure of GTA VI’s map should be extremely careful.
We already know from Rockstar’s official material that GTA VI takes place in the state of Leonida and includes Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga.
Anything found in old internal files needs to be measured against what Rockstar has actually confirmed.
No, This Does Not Confirm Liberty City DLC for GTA VI
This is probably the biggest misconception spreading around the story.
The existence of an unfinished Liberty City project inside GTA V development files does not confirm a GTA VI Liberty City expansion.
Some fans believe Rockstar could reuse the work because of how large the map appears to have been.
That is possible in the broadest sense. Developers reuse concepts, technology and assets all the time.
But there is currently no official evidence tying LibertyV to GTA VI’s post launch plans.
Rockstar has not announced GTA VI story expansions, additional cities or a Liberty City DLC.
Until it does, those claims belong firmly in the rumor category.
This distinction matters because speculation can very quickly become “confirmed” information once enough accounts repeat it.
That is exactly what OTSPress wants to avoid.
Why Old Development Files Are Still Interesting
Leaks are harmful, but the material can still reveal something valuable about how games evolve.
Canceled maps, alternate missions and unfinished mechanics demonstrate how much work never appears in the product players eventually purchase.
GTA V launched in 2013 and became one of the most successful games ever made.
Even after players spent more than a decade exploring Los Santos and Blaine County, these files suggest Rockstar experimented with far more content than the public ever saw.
Liberty City may have been rebuilt and abandoned.
Trevor may have almost starred in a spy campaign.
Entire interiors, vehicles and mission concepts may have disappeared before release.
That is normal in game development.
What is unusual is seeing so much of that process exposed without the developer choosing to show it.
Be Careful With Downloads
There is another practical reason not to chase the leaked archive itself.
Large unofficial file packages distributed through random download links can pose serious security risks.
There is no guarantee that every copy being circulated is identical to the original archive, and malicious files can easily be bundled into repackaged downloads.
Some outlets covering the story have specifically warned readers against downloading the files.
There is already enough public reporting to understand the important parts of this story without downloading stolen development data.
What Rockstar Has Actually Confirmed
Rockstar has not publicly commented on this newly resurfaced archive at the time of writing.
The company’s official GTA VI information remains unchanged.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar has officially revealed Leonida, Vice City, Jason, Lucia and several surrounding regions.
It has not announced Liberty City as part of GTA VI.
It has not announced Liberty City DLC.
And it has not confirmed that any assets contained in these leaked development files remain part of the current game.
That is the line between what we know and what the internet is currently trying to piece together.
The Bigger Story Is What Rockstar Almost Built
The most interesting part of this leak may not actually be GTA VI.
It is the alternate version of GTA V we never received.
A larger Liberty City. Story expansions. Agent Trevor. Strange interiors. Different missions. Early vehicles.
Together, the files offer a glimpse at how many different directions Rockstar explored before GTA V became the game we know today.
That history is worth discussing.
It just needs to be discussed responsibly.
OTSPress will continue reporting major developments surrounding Rockstar and GTA VI, including leaks when they become significant public news. We will not distribute leaked files, encourage people to seek them out or treat unfinished stolen material as official information.
The best look at GTA VI will still be the one Rockstar chooses to release itself.
